How to Deal With Bleeding Haemorrhoids
A common problem with adult males and pregnant women is bleeding haemorrhoids. Haemorrhoids are caused by veins in and around the rectal area that swell up and get inflamed because of several reasons, such as straining too much during bowel movement, standing up and sitting down for extended periods of time, constipation, and obesity. Eventually, this leads to itching and bleeding haemorrhoids.
Having bleeding haemorrhoids is a very irritating and uncomfortable experience. It can be so disturbing enough to make even the simplest tasks excruciating, such as walking, standing, sitting down, and driving. Be aware however, that bleeding can also be signs of other gastro-intestinal problems, such as damage to the liver, colon, and rectal cancer.
Having haemorrhoids is not life threatening, but in cases like these, it is best to seek medical advice to determine the exact cause of the bleeding. Most doctors would recommend colonoscopy to find out the root cause, especially if there is heavy bleeding and pain. This is tricky by offhand observation because the symptoms are very similar among a lot of other problems, and this is why it is also necessary to give you peace of mind.
Blood is usually noticeable when it comes along with the stool or on the tissue after wiping. Some cases of bad toilet practices also lead to development of haemorrhoids. Trying to force bowel movement and wiping too hard with tissue are some causes. By wetting the tissue a bit or by using soft moist wipes, these will somewhat lessen the irritation when cleaning.
Prevention of the causes of haemorrhoids is the best defense you will have to having the condition. But in the likelihood that you already have it, you have to remember to keep the areas clean to avoid further irritation as well as to prevent the problem from getting worse.
In cases where you have internal haemorrhoids, which are where the swollen veins cannot be visible, you can use suppositories. For external haemorrhoids, you can directly apply an anti-inflammatory cream or ointment. But before that, a nice warm sitz bath will help relieve the itchiness and alleviate some of the pain and discomfort.
Aside from the medicines to take, you will never be able to cure bleeding haemorrhoids fully without making some changes to your lifestyle by lessening factors to reduce stress, ensuring you do not have constipation by eating a fiber rich diet, increasing your intake of liquids, and having proper exercise.
